Right now, the state government is dangerously close to lifting the ban on fracking, and companies are lining up to frack thousands of wells across the Top End.
Can you write an email to Chief Minister Michael Gunner and the NT Labor front bench to demand a permanent ban on fracking?
Our allies Seed, Lock the Gate and AYCC have been working with Traditional Owners, farmers and whole communities to defend the Territory from fracking for five long years. They won a temporary ban in 2016, but it might be overturned by the end of March.
The people of the Territory have stood brave and strong to get this far, but together we need to push the NT Government to stand up to the pressure of the Turnbull Government and the big fracking companies.
Let’s show Chief Minister Gunner that communities across the country stand in solidarity with Aboriginal communities, Traditional Owners, pastoralists, station owners, tourism operators and thousands across the the Territory who want clean water, clean air and a liveable climate for our kids.
Opening the NT up to fracking would poison precious groundwater, destroy bushlands and deserts and lock in a dangerous climate for our kids. It will result in billions of tonnes of climate pollution over its lifetime, with one basin alone releasing an estimated four to five times the pollution at the Adani mega coal mine.
Tell Chief Minister Gunner and his front bench that Territory communities want a path to clean air, clean water and a safe climate instead. Your email will be sent to:
