The plains north of Bendigo up to the Murray River are a big contrast to the rolling hills of Central Victoria. Near the river at Gunbower and Turrumbarry, there are passionate locals who recognise the importance of restoring this Yorta Yorta - Barap Barap country to it's former glory, aided by environmental flows which are part of the Murray Darling Basin Plan.

Join us for a day of visiting three Nature-based projects in the Murray River flood plain at Richardsons Lagoon - Torrumbarry, Gunbower Landcare Project near Kow Swamp and Hunyani Nature Reserve – Gunbower.

Bendigo and south of Bendigo based participants will carpool to save energy. BYO morning tea, drinks and picnic lunch as we'll be too busy to find a place to buy food and drinks.

Meet at Scott St, near White Hills Botanic Gardens entrance, to car pool. We will leave at 9am to drive to Torrumbarry  via Lockington where we'll be hosted by Tuesday Brouwell, an ACF River Fellowship recipient, at her property at Richardsons Lagoon. Then we'll move on to meet Audrey Dickens, Gunbower Landcare, at Kow Swamp (the end point of the Bendigo Creek) for a short presentation and tour of revegetation work.  We'll have lunch while there. We'll conclude the excursion by visiting Sian Turner, an ACF member, at her Hunyani Nature Reserve, on a naturally occuring sandhill at Gunbower, where she has taken on a massive revegetation project. From here we'll return to  Bendigo via Tennyson and Milloo to arrive by 5pm.

If you're from south of Bendigo, you can be collected from the Bendigo station, or be hosted by a Bendigo member on the Saturday night. If you're living/staying closer to the region, contact Marie for meetup details.

RSVP early to assist with organisation of the excursion.
