Our national environment laws are supposed to protect the places and wildlife we love.
But the once-in-a-decade review of those laws has found that nature in Australia is in big trouble. Australia has one of the worst extinction records on Earth, and even our most iconic wildlife like the koala and platypus are at risk in some states.
The independent reviewer, Professor Graeme Samuel, recommends a complete overhaul of our national environment laws to protect our country’s unique places, plants, animals and ecosystems for future generations.
Australia has one of the worst extinction records on Earth. It's time for laws that actually protect nature, and an independent regulator to enforce them.

The law should protect the Eungella honeyeater and Eungella tinkerfrog, sugar gliders, brushtail possums, longnosed bandicoots, grassland melomys, tawny frogmouths and several species of bats, jewel-bright rainbow lorikeets, blue-eyed honeyeaters, red-brown finches, or the green flash of foraging noisy pittas, turtles, eels and platypus. Government shouldn’t be allowed to put money $$$ above the law.
A tragedy that so much wildlife is being lost. How sad for future generations that they won’t get to see & experience these wonderful animals, insects and plants.

I love the environment & all wildlife, but most importantly life itself. Life can not be sustained at the rate I’m seeing here in NW Tasmania our eco systems are failing every where. Change is needed before its too late..
Thank you, concerned Dad & carer
It’s nearly to late, stop the destruction of forests, especially fires, let the trees make oxygen and clean air, no more log fires or logging please, let nature do it’s job for eco systems towork
The extinction of numerous species across Australia (and the world ) is a major concern for me, my family & community. The lack of legal support for the environment indicates a short term, blindfolded approach by governments at local, state & national levels as well as internationally.
Free animals! Protect Nature.
Leave the area as it is. We, the residents, the rates payers, the electors do NOT want it
