To celebrate the year, we’re off for a bushwalk in the Barossa Valley followed by lunch in Lyndoch.

Altona Reserve is a nature reserve rehabilitated by a local Landcare group. It’s teaming with birdlife, kangaroos and flora.

We are fortunate to have local volunteers leading us on the walk who know the track well.

Although it is some distance for city folk, it sounds like such a beautiful spot and well worth the visit. So we thought, let’s check it out!

Itinerary

We estimate the bushwalk will take 1 ½ - 2 hours - depending whether you want to ziparound or stroll, and how much time you want to spend sitting in the many rest areas and taking in the view, stopping to listen to bird sounds and taking pictures.

After the walk, we plan to drive to the Sunrise Bakery and Cafe, 28 Barossa Valley Way,  Lyndoch  for lunch by 1pm, where you can stay for a time that suits you. (Lunch is at your own cost.)

Ability

Medium fitness required. Undulating paths. Distance of approximately 5km.

It is essential to keep to the signposted tracks to avoid dangerous falls - especially keep an eye on young children.

Transport

Altona Reserve is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes from Adelaide. Car parking is available at the entrance on Altona Road.
