Australia’s big four banks have a climate problem.

NAB, ANZ, Westpac and CommBank continue to fund huge coal and gas projects that are fuelling the climate crisis:

  • Since January 2016, ANZ has invested nearly $14 billion into fossil fuels, and $2.5 billion of this was for expansionary (new) projects. NAB, CommBank and Westpac are not far behind.
  • In November 2021, NAB and ANZ released new gas and oil lending policies that leave the door open for billions to flow to gas projects for decades to come.

The big banks talk a big game on climate, publicly supporting net zero by 2050 and promoting their investments in renewables. But solving the climate crisis means stopping funding the digging and burning of fossil fuels too.

Big banks have the unique power to direct billions into climate solutions that can drive the deep cuts to pollution needed this decade. Technologies like big batteries, electric cars and buses, and clean manufacturing are here and ready to take off.

Sign the petition to the big four banks – NAB, ANZ, Westpac and CommBank:

As community members, customers, shareholders, and employees, we call on all banks to:

  1. Commit to fully exit coal, gas and oil by 2030
  2. Take no part in new or expansionary coal, gas or oil projects.

I vote for a pollution free environment and healthier people. No more funding of fossil fuels in any form. All investments need to be in a renewable energy future & Australian made opportunities.

PLEASE – do yourselves and your shareholders a favour by fully exiting from coal, gas and oil by 2030 and certainly don’t invest in any plans for new or expansionary fossil fuel projects. We have 8 years MAX to turn this around. The future of our planet depends on you.

We are in a climate emergency. Gas is a fossil fuel. Have some moral fibre, Australian Banks. Stay away from fossil fuel company financing, investment and support.

This government wants people to take personal responsibility for their interface with covid – and we’re doing that.
Let’s do one better – all take responsibility for acting on the climate emergency – and then tell them at the ballot box exactly what we think of them.

Please Big Banks, instead of enabling the fossil fuel and gas polluters to do more harm to our delicate climate, fund renewables and support the healing of our planet and invest in its future for the highest good of all humanity.

Isn’t it obvious we have to fix the climate problem NOW before it is too late? Stop using gas now.

Stop funding the digging and burning of fossil fuels that fuel the climate crisis. Fund climate solutions instead.

Please follow the science and the social justice. Get out of funding the fossil fuel industry which is a major contributor to climate change. Be part of the solution, not the problem.
