To the Queensland government,

From droughts to bushfires, Queenslanders are living with the impacts of climate damage here and now.

Queensland can be a leader in clean energy. We could be powering our homes, our towns and our economy with good energy and new jobs, powered by the wind and the sun.

If Queenslanders own our clean energy, we can create thousands of jobs we can be proud of and bring down power prices.

We are calling on you to make public investment in big renewable projects a priority, and act now to:

  1. Get on with climate action: set stronger pollution reduction targets, and rapidly replace coal-fired power with clean energy
  2. Build publicly-owned renewables, starting construction of at least one large project by mid-2020
  3. Plan and fund a fair transition for workers in the energy sector

Let's get on with it!

We need promises that the government will make actions plans that will lead us to cleaner energy.Action plans with a timeline that the QLD government is accountable for.

And… still they back the Adani coal mine and opening up the Galilee Basin!
Quote
" This precinct is to accommodate uses that support resource activities and related development in the
Galilee Basin. The following uses within the Mining Services Precinct are consistent with the
development"
Read as go ahead for Adani, Palmer and Rinehart to rip as much coal as they want. Using as much groundwater as they want.
ALP… Just LNP lite

Our federal government is clearly not intending to lead. It is up to the rest of us, state and local government and we as individuals to get on with the essential transition to renewables and not waste any more precious time.

I reckon the best thing we Qld environmentalists can do now is educate (interested, uninformed) voters in the Transition to renewables, and encourage Qld Labor to stand firm on its Transition Plan. (It has one)
I’ll be doing both this year.
It is not enough to talk to people who understand the seriousness of this Transition. We have to reach out to communities where there is little respect for the environment.
We shouldn’t worry about the true denialists, but we can encourage people who see the danger of doing nothing.
