This week we've learned that tech company Siemens is considering a dirty deal with Adani.

Adani needs a company to install signalling on the 200km railway it will use to transport coal to the coast. Only a few companies in Australia can do this work – and all except Siemens have ruled it out!

Call any (or all!) of these Siemens offices and ask them to leave a message for Jeff Connolly (CEO Siemens Australia & Pacific) and Raphaelle Guerineau (CEO Siemens Mobility Australia & New Zealand). Ask them to rule out working on the climate-wrecking project.

Report back on your call so we can count our impact.

1. Siemens Australia Head Office – (03) 9721 2000
2. Siemens Mobility Melbourne Office (03) 9616 9000
3. Siemens Corporate Enquiries – 137 222

Calling tips

  • Be friendly and polite! Our concern is with Siemens' decision to work with Adani, not its employees.
  • These calls don't have to be long – the sheer number of calls is what will have an impact, so feel free to make it quick so you can get through as many as you can!
  • You may be asked to direct your message to their website – you can politely decline that, and leave your message with the staff member you are speaking to.
  • Ask directly for Siemens to rule out work on Adani's coal mine and rail project. Climate damage is here, now – we must end digging and burning coal.

Talking points

Remember, you don't need to be an expert on climate damage or anything else! You have a right to make this call and share your concerns about Siemens supporting a climate-wrecking project. Here are some talking points to help your call:

  • Share your support for Siemens committing to the Paris Agreement to keep global temperature rise well below 2°C and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. Remind Siemens that helping Adani dig up and export coal for burning is incompatible with the Paris Agreement.
  • Mention that burning coal is the biggest cause of climate damage – and the Adani mine would open the Galilee Basin to one of the biggest expansions of coal mining on planet Earth.
  • Suggest that by backing clean energy and refusing to work on dangerous projects like coal mines, companies like Siemens can provide solutions to the climate crisis – not be part of the problem.

I would never condone harassment however the Siemen’s email address convention is pretty easy to guess – [email protected]. Why not reach out to the Australian leadership team directly instead of spamming their receptionists? Find their names on linkedin – just search for Siemens Executive General Manager.

Call to the Sydney office went through to a fax machine sound; left a message for the CEO to call me back to discuss not going ahead with working on the Adani mine. Noted that working on such a venture is in direct opposition to the companies’ own sustainability goals.

I called Melbourne head office and got the message bank. I left a message. I mentioned that my call was in regards to Siemens decision to work with the Adani Carmichael mine and that I would like to speak with the company’s Chief Executive about this.

Called all 3 listed contacts. All went to message bank. I left lengthy messages on each asking whether the news was true that Siemens is assisting Adani with this climate wrecking coal mine. I asked them to return my call and tell me that this is not true and that it is just a terrible nightmare. I asked whether they have children and grandchildren and whether they care about the state of our planet for them to live in and to consider their conscience and change their mind. I said we would not give up protesting and taking action against Seimens.

Could not get through to the Sydney office, left a recorded message and asked them to follow through on their promise on the recording, to ‘call be back within the next business day’. Also sent an email.

the receptionists took my messages to pass on. they were very polite so even if anyone is feeling a bit anxious about making the calls it was very easy to explain my concerns.

I called the Melbourne Head Office and mentioned as a German as well as Australian citizen I feel deeply concerned and upset that a large reputable German company like Siemens decided to support or even execute Adani’s coal mine and railway – at this point of our history when it is most urgent ethically and financially to move speedily to a transition to a fossil free economy.
The lady on the phone was friendly and will pass it on to management. I checked back., added a few more points and she strongly affirmed she will pass on the message.

Cheers to all in crazy and hard times, Maria

Don’t know what planet Iva lives on (a previous commenter) but if it’s the same one as the rest of us she is seriously deluded. Anyway, rang HO – they couldn’t put me through to anyone else – surprise surprise – she listened politely but with obvious boredom. Then rang mobility office – not manned so left msg.

I called both numbers. Said that the AMA of which I am member has called a climate emergency on medical grounds. This medical emergency is happening now in Sydney. I asked that Siemans not to work on the Adani mine as it will result in climate change being even worse.
Anna 2019-12-11 15:33:42 +1100
Left a message for the Adani team & CEO that they should follow their #1 value stated on their website which is to be responsible and to ‘practice sustainability in the interest of future generations’.

Had quite a wait, then spoke to receptionist (Ph No 3) to urge Siemens NOT to work with Adani. Was asked to email, which I will also do.

I called both numbers. I had a polite conversation with the first operator and the second number (Mobility) was covered by an answering machine.
