The Labor Party is still tying themselves in knots about Adani. They need to hear from us encouraging them to reject this polluting coal mine.
This is Labor’s Franklin River moment. This decision will go down in Australian environmental history. The ALP are so close, but we need to get them over the line.
Give them the courage and confidence to make the right decision!

Called Bill Shorten and Jason Clare’s office.
They are apparently conducting a review to determine their position based on the economic feasibility and environmental impacts. Could not get an answer as to when this review might be completed.
Even if the financial case can be made(doubtful) and the environmental impacts can be minimized I did not get the impression that the people I spoke to were prepared to consider the wider issues.
Coal is not the future and there is nothing to be gained by exporting the problem to other countries. Where is the vision here re: renewables?
I rang Bill Shorten’s office. I stated that I appreciate the difficulty of navigating such a policy in a big party such as the ALP, however I encourage him to follow through on his sttaements to Geoff Cousins, and lead on tis issue now.
I stated that ALP have a proud tradition of environmental protection (from the Franklin through to the many Garrett achievements) and Adani is a great issue to lead on. He will be empowered with with enormous support in the polls and his detractors from within will be silenced by the strong public support. Declan took my call and was courteous.

I pointed out that there was still some prevarication going on from my readings of the media. She politely promised to pass my message on to Tanya….
Hi – I called Tanya Plibersek’s office and was told that they would email me further details. However, the lady I spoke to, Neeve, also mentioned that Bill Shorten had already said that no federal money would be given to such a venture and that Tanya doesn’t think it stacks up either and wouldn’t support it.

The staffer commented that labour was against the Adani coal mine going ahead but as the labor party worked as a collective there are decision that need to be made through this process. Commented that there had been many calls on this issue
I rather e-mail than phone which I did. I have looked up all the contact details and send all the members of parliament listed an e-mail/sent contact form.

I called Bill Shortens office, ‘was told it is under review and Adani being investigated for faking tests’, I also asked them to oppose the changes to the Election Bill but they wouldn’t commit to either. I then asked them to pass on a message to Bill asking him to oppose both Bills.
Hi – overall call went OK. Was very polite and civil. Called Anthony Albanese’s office and talked with staffer Matthew Franklin. He listened to my concerns about Adani and any mining in the Galilee Basin and region. He then defended Mr Albaneses’s position stating that the MP believed that the RET established by the previous Labour Government was sufficient to prevent projects like the Carmichael coal mine to proceed and he didn’t feel that further restrictions were necessary. He said he noted my concern that the current RET provisions pushed the timeline to renewables out too far and that I wished to see stronger and more quickly effective measures in place. He took my name and number. Cheers :)

Unable to have call taken, left a message against Labor supporting Adani
Spoke with one of Tanya’s staff and it was polite and to the point. The result is being added to a list of callers against the mine. They really were not interested in a conversation about the reasons at all which I feel is not really being heard. Hello Labour are you listening? Or is that a case who are you listening to? Anyways we can only try. Now, should I call the other people on your list?

I asked staffer if Labour has decided one way or the other on Adani. She was non committal. When asked if Labour has a policy for alternative jobs in Queensland she said she thought one had been announced. Have I missed it?

Jason Clare I spoke about proposed bill about lobby groups and charities having a voice, about their rights to express their views on social justice issues and environmental issues. Lucy will email me Labor 2 page position paper. I expressed disgust about Adani and said I had been lobbying on this issue every chance I have had, living in Russell Broadbent’s electorate as I do . . .
Jason Clare`s electoral office (Bankstown). Said it would be very difficult to vote Labor if they still support Adani up to the election, and that they need to reject coal industry donations. Was assured my message would be passed on to Jason`s advisers
I rang Mark Butler. I spoke to staffer, expressed my disappointment that labor seem to be prevaricating about this mine. I advised that I was against this toxic mine, which would be a risk for Barrier reef, have a huge impact on climate change, and a risk to Great Artesian Basin etc.
The staffer advised that Mark Butler is a strong opponent of this mine. Lets hope other cabinet members start to listen to him!
