The Brisbane City Council has a verge garden policy that makes it possible for residents and council to work together to increase shade and biodiversity throughout our suburbs.

This helps nature and it helps us by making our streets cooler and more pleasant to walk along.

The council plants and maintains the street trees. Residents plant native verge gardens within the council guidelines.

Find out why you can't just plant whatever you want. And why native gardens are better than food on the verge.

This event is part of our #saveourbigbackyard nature project to increase awareness of the need to protect and increase biodiversity. It will be help in conjunction with the Keep Sandgate Beautiful Association Inc who are just starting their group verge garden project, and the Banyo District Verge Gardening group who can share their experiences.
