Protect our beautiful reef

Billionaire polluter Gautam Adani wants to dig a giant new coal mine and there is a risk our federal government will hand $1 billion of public funding to prop it up.

  • The funds would come through the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF).
  • Five of the seven NAIF directors have close connections to the fossil fuel industry.
  • NAIF’s chief adviser, Efic, has a track record of investing in large fossil fuel projects, backing fossil fuels over renewables at a rate of more than 100:1.
  • At risk is the Great Barrier Reef – one of the most diverse and beautiful natural environments on our planet.
  • Up to 50% of the Reef's coral has died in the last two years, according to coral scientist, Professor Terry Hughes. Mining and burning fossil fuels – like coal – is warming the ocean and killing the Reef.

We have a duty to protect the reef so that the coral, fish, sharks, rays and turtles who call the Reef home can live on for future generations.

Climate change is happening here now, and destroying the web of life we love and rely on.

Meanwhile this government panders to the coal industry.

There’s no way we can let Adani dig Australia’s biggest coal mine – which threatens to drain and pollute groundwater, wreck our climate and destroy our Great Barrier Reef.

Sign the petition to Malcolm Turnbull – don't give Adani public funding.

By signing this petition, you're joining the biggest movement in Australia's history. The more people who join our community, the more pressure we can create on Adani. This mine is a line in the sand. We will #StopAdani.

Together, let's call for our money to be invested in clean energy, not wrecking the Great Barrier Reef.

Prime Minister Turnbull, during the election you said there would be no public funding for Adani. Adani's Reef-killing coal mine is not public infrastructure. Don’t waste public money on it.

The reef is world heritage and should be out pride and joy. And it brings in about 5 billion in tourist money. Think long term, think of the planet.
