Gas fracking companies have started drilling in the Beetaloo Basin in the Northern Territory, threatening the health of the rivers, springs and groundwater that people and wildlife in this dry part of the continent rely on for survival. Just last week, contaminated water from a gas well spilled on local vegetation.

It’s staggering that this has been allowed to occur without any environmental assessment at the federal level. Traditional Owners and conservation groups like ACF have long opposed these gas projects for their clear impacts on waterways and our climate. In December, an independent expert scientific committee assessed and concluded that these gas projects would pose substantial risks to NT water resources. Yet no one in the Albanese Government has acted to take a closer look.

Thankfully, there’s still time before the federal election for the Albanese Government to do the responsible thing and call in NT gas fracking for federal assessment.

Our government must feel pressure from the public to know they cannot kick this water-guzzling gas can down the road.

Send the letter to the Prime Minister and Environment Minister now asking them to:

  1. Call in Empire Energy and Tamboran Resource's gas fracking projects for assessment under the water trigger
  2. And protect our water. Fracking for gas devours and ruins water systems and in the Northern Territory water is life.

Every voice speaking up now is critical to stopping gas fracking in the NT. Thank you for using yours to protect water and our climate!
