This is a 5km walk through the bird-filled One Eye State Forest between Heathcote and Derrinal Pool, at the northern point of Lake Eppalock. A local Conservation Management Network has conducted a successful nest box program in the forest, in the absence of tall trees with hollows. The walk is relatively flat, partly along gravel roads and partly along narrow tracks. It is a great area for observing birds and there have been sightings of swift parrots at this time of the year. We'll stop at Hidden Dam for a food and drink break. This is one of the few obvious remnants of the gold mining from 1873 to 1974 on the walk.
The meeting place is along Mia Mia - Derrinal Road off the McIvor Highway. Carpooling is suggested.
