ANZ has a climate problem. The bank is planning to have $8.7 billion invested in fossil fuels by 2030– that’s almost double what the other big banks are investing.

Bushfires, drought – the climate crisis is here, now, and ANZ must do the right thing by all of us and shift the billions of dollars they are responsible for out of burning and digging fossil fuels like coal.

"As concerned citizens, customers, shareholders, and employees, we call on ANZ to stop financing the digging and burning of fossil fuels. The first steps are:

  1. divesting from thermal coal by 2030 or earlier;
  2. divesting from oil & gas in line with the Paris climate agreement;
  3. not investing in new or expansion coal, gas & oil projects;

Burning fossil fuels is the biggest driver of climate damage. We are concerned about the climate crisis and want action."

As a former banker myself, I cannot understand how ANZ [or any other bank] can justify ignoring the overwhelming evidence of the costs to our only planet by supporting fossil fuels. Nor that they risk throwing away investors and depositors funds on assets that may very likely become stranded by the rapidly changing necessities of trade and regulation. Don’t fund climate destruction!

Like many, Ive chosen a super fund that does not invest in climate damaging industries. Its 2020 not 1950, ANZ.

Banks have a corporate responsibility in their investment choices. Not good enough, ANZ.

I left the ANZ and put my money in Bank Australia because I learnt that they were investing my money in fossil fuels.

How archaic of ANZ to continue funding dirty industries and bring about climate change. Why are you doubling what other banks are moving away from?

I am looking at moving my business from ANZ as a result of their climate lack of performance.

ANZ is seriously lagging behind the other banks. It is not a good look to be the last dinosaur clinging onto the old fossil fuel regime! Get with the people and get out of coal and gas or be left behind. Your reputation is already suffering serious challenge, how about you do something sensible for a change and immediately pull out of all fossil fuel investments? This of course would be a major selling point for your business and would go a long way to restoring your tarnished reputation! Why you could even become world leaders in clean and renewable technologies. Imagine that, leading the way to a better future rather than helping prop up failing outdated poisonous technologies!
