Australia needs bold action to address our extinction and pollution crises.

Places You Love, Australia’s largest environment alliance with more than one million supporters, has called on Federal Labor to stay the course on urgently needed and historic reform of Australia’s environment laws.

Media reports suggest Labor’s commitments on national environment law reform are at risk of unravelling, after Shadow Environment Minister Tony Burke said an administrative error had been made to a draft of Labor’s National Platform.

Places You Love has campaigned long and hard for strong new environment laws and independent institutions to address Australia’s worsening extinction, pollution and deforestation crises.

The Alliance strongly supports the position in the final draft of the Labor Party’s National Platform to deliver these reforms in the first term of an ALP government.

The Places You Love Alliance urges Labor’s Shadow Cabinet to support these reforms at National Conference and in the lead up to the next federal election.

Australians are looking for leadership and vision on nature and environment. These reforms provide the foundation for such leadership. Australia needs bold action to address our extinction and pollution crises – and that action cannot wait.

  • Places You Love is made up of 54 environmental NGOs and organisations with a combined supporter base of more than one million Australians.
  • Places You Love calls on all sides of politics to deliver a new National Environment Act that entrenches national leadership on the environment, a National Environment Commission to act as independent advocate for the environment and an independent Environment Protection Agency to ensure our laws are enforced fairly and without favour.
