Tens of thousands of ordinary Australians called for Adani to be prosecuted for its pollution.

In response the Queensland Government’s prosecution of Adani for coal pollution from the Abbot Point terminal during Cyclone Debbie, Australian Conservation Foundation Stop Adani Campaigner, Christian Slattery, said:

“Adani released eight times the legal amount of coal pollution into our oceans during Cyclone Debbie. The Queensland Government is finally doing the right thing and holding the company to account.

“This is testament to the tens of thousands of ordinary Australians who called for Adani to be prosecuted for its pollution.

“Many more Australia do not want Adani to be allowed to go ahead with its massive new coal mine in the Galilee Basin. This prosecution is another sign Adani can’t be trusted with our Great Barrier Reef, our safe climate and our precious clean water.

“Digging-up and burning the coal from Adani’s proposed mine will generate massive amounts of new climate pollution that will accelerate coral bleaching on our reef and the extreme droughts and fires lashing our communities.

“Our elected representatives must step-up and stop this mine once and for all.”
